Assistant Professor Dr. Jana Bogdanoska was born in Skopje, where she completed her primary and secondary education. She graduated from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje in Physics, with a specialization in Astronomy and Astrophysics, as well as in Physics Education, with a high grade point average. In 2016, she was awarded Best Student of the Institute of Physics.
She completed her Master's studies at Aix-Marseille University, France, within the A*MIDEX scholarship program, where in 2018 she defended her Master's thesis in the field of extragalactic astronomy. She continued her doctoral studies at the same university, at the Laboratoire d’Astrophysique de Marseille (LAM), where in 2022 she defended her PhD thesis titled “Stars and dust in the first billion years of the Universe” and obtained the scientific degree Doctor of Physics in the field of astrophysics and cosmology.
Since 2020, she has been employed at the Institute of Physics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje, first as a teaching assistant and, since 2023, as an Assistant Professor in the field of astronomy and astrophysics. In recent years, her research interests have expanded toward physics education research, with a focus on the application of modern approaches and tools, including artificial intelligence, in physics teaching. She is involved in teaching several courses in physics, astronomy, and physics education, where she actively contributes to the development of teaching materials and practical student activities.
Her scientific research is focused on extragalactic astrophysics, galaxy evolution, and the role of dust in the early Universe. She is author and co-author of several scientific papers published in international journals with impact factor, as well as papers presented at international conferences. She actively participates in international scientific networks, including the COST Action CosmoVerse.
In addition to her scientific work, she is actively involved in science outreach and the development of physics education. She participates in the organization of competitions, workshops, and astronomy schools, as well as in the preparation of popular science materials. She is a member of the Macedonian Astronomical Society, where she actively contributes to the organization of educational and outreach activities, and since 2024 she serves as its president.
She is fluent in English and French and uses modern computational tools and programming languages such as Python and LaTeX in her work.
